Ingredients
Yarn:
- 100ml water
- 3gr sodium alginate
- 5gr glycerine
- 2.5gr oil
Calcium Solution:
- 200ml Water
- 20gr Calcium Chloride (10% of the water)
Tools
- Pot
- Scale
- Bowl
- Blender
- Spoon
- Silicon Spatula
- Tray or surface to dry.
step1: making the bioplastic
Mix the yarn ingredients (sodium alginate, water, glycerine, and oil) till it is all homogeneous. You can mix the ingredients manually or with a blender.
If you are using a blender, put the oil, alginate and glycerine in a blender and add a dash of the water.
Blend into a thick and homogenous paste. Then add the rest of the water and blend again (this is to avoid lumps).
step2: making the calcium solution
Add the calcium chloride to the water and mix well using a spoon.
step3: making the yarn
Add the yarn mixture into a syringe or a squeeze bottle. Extrude evenly and continuously over the calcium chloride solution.
step 4: dry the mixture
use a tray or a clean surface to extend the yarn and let it air dry.
